Ermenistan’da içeriği ve sonuçları oldukça tartışmalı bir referandum gerçekleştirildi. Cumhurbaşkanının yetkilerini kısıtlayıp, parlamentonun gücünü artıracak anayasa değişikliği için yapılan referandumda yüzde 63 evet oyu kullanıldı. Halkın yarısı oy kullanmamayı tercih etti.

The jet crisis between Turkey and Russia has reminded us that foreign policy may prove extremely fragile and variable despite all calculations and predictions. Bewildered by fluctuations in the country’s foreign policy, people are looking to foreign policy experts to guide them through the maze, to no avail. Attempts to analyze the situation as one wrought from self-defense have not helped cover up the fact that we nurture approaches which foster only short-term regional gains.

Turkey has been wallowing in an ever-growing ruckus for years. What the politicians, who are primarily responsible for such a state of being, have been doing is pouring more fuel on the fire and preventing people confused by imaginary enemies from coming to their senses.
The current state of the people who would keep away from political activities in the wake of the 1980 coup d’état constitutes a thought-provoking case for sociological research. In the past, the main piece of advice from parents to their kids was to “keep away from politics,” yet now they say: “It is time to give full support to the chief. We will fight, cause a commotion and stand guard before his house to protect him,” which signifies a tremendous change over the years. Today, many of those parents have come to endorse even the use of elementary school kids in this meaningless and dangerous dispute. The never-ending war of words that erupted between supporters of the ruling party and opposition parties in the wake of the June election is the result of this. But we don’t know exactly where this soaring polarization will lead.

Europe will pay more attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement in 2016, Mehmet Fatih Oztarsu, the Vice-President of the Turkish Strategic Outlook analytical center, the expert on the South Caucasus region, told Trend Nov. 5.
He was commenting on the PACE draft resolution calling for an end to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

The “Shant-2015” military exercises of the Armenian Defense Ministry were conducted Sept. 3-6. Unlike during previous exercises, the public’s preparedness for a possible war was measured. “Shant-2015” was interesting and important because for the first time the capabilities of a country which has had serious disagreements with Azerbaijan were evaluated in a scenario of regional warfare. A statement from the Armenian General Staff noted that they had attempted to identify how ministries would perform in an emergency in military terms. The general staff also underlined preparedness for geopolitical changes and transformation, and that it had informed the military attaches of foreign missions.
